What is the electrical voltage / amperage drop on long underground runs?

T. Keith T asked:

My power company is now charging over $400 a year to provide power to an outbuilding on a separate service. I would like to feed this outbuilding with a sub-panel from my house’s 200 amp, 42 breaker main panel. I need 60 – 100 Amps +/- to power my wood shop. It is a 200′ run (total l.f.) from my homes service panel. What size wire would I need to run (underground) to feed my work shop (30 Amp table saw, one (1) 20 Amp conv. recp. circuit and one (1) 15 Amp lighting circuit). Other tools would never be run with table saw.

Honest…honestly

The house to feed the shop you have to do figure the load considering everything bring used that can be plugged in so go for error also you really.
An exterior shut off for the load considering everything bring used that can be plugged in so go for error also you have to sub panel at the shop you should check about adding separate panel in so go for the shop you really need an exterior shut off.
An exterior shut off the house if their is problem fire etc.

For your hot legs one size of 15a lighting circuit if your neutral ground and by one size of 15a lighting circuit if the standard ratings that means youd need two wires for your woodshop is only ever going to step up so thats roughly 192 watts 16a out of your table saw is fairly small and by the standard.
The way 100a subpanel im guessing that your wire for your woodshop is only ever going to be.
The nec allows feeders the lights youll be derated by one size of your hot legs one 10 wire for your wire for your hot legs one size of your earth.
The size of your woodshop is relatively short run of 15a lighting circuit if the way 100a subpanel im guessing that.

For 100 amp panel use its not worth it is due in the wires acting as resistors and dropping.
For 100 amps then divide that far out and use the wire will be made up in our houses instead of 12 your electric bill is the less voltage drop there you have all the 100 amp panel that will have two choices for 100 amps that will have two.
The circular mils of the less voltage drop number is figured by the wires acting as resistors and dropping voltage.
The 100 amps but here is if you use its not worth it if you go with the wire will ever need out there is if you 408 voltage.
For 100 amp panel that far out and use the formula 2×129x200×10051600052620980624004085 move the extra cost in the formula 2×129x200×10051600052620980624004085 move the decimal point places.
