Out of Africa

Out of Africa

This turning is 24 inches tall and 13 inches in diameter. With the exception of the lid the entire piece is turned from Pine Beatle Killed Ponerosa Pine. We are having such a terrible problem in colorado from the pine beatle. I wanted something to do from it. I came up with this series that allows me to do a heavy texture or carving. I then burn and wire brush it. I then dye it and glaze it with a gel stain. The lid is Brazilian Cherry and the handle is created from the tips of an elk antler shed and wrapped in copper. The second two photos came just before I had wrapped the copper and compleated my laquer work.

Spyder Box

Spyder Box

This is a spyder box. For those of you that like doing boxes on the lathe this a a little different take on them. Turned from a solid piece of quilted maple, the box is made by creating spigots on the top and bottom. The box is split then hollowed. It is placed on a jamb chuck and top and bottom are turned. The box is laquered. The box is 8 inches by 6 inches.

Idea for Grant Fishing Box

Lumberjocks,

Matt has asked for some help on a Tackle Box for Grant. I am adding my two cents on a design. Please respond to Matt and help him accomplish his goal. We are a great group of people and I know all of us have something to add, even if it is a comment to inspire other LumberJocks. Thanks to all that have helped out today and in the past. Let’s make Grant’s future brighter…please help out. I know we are going through very hard times right now. I can stand to that.
We all have great talent and the market has not recognized that from my perspective. Let’s put “Lumberjocks on the map once and for all so the world can see the caring and giving of such talented people.

Please send comments to Matt also.

God Bless to all of you.
