Mortise & Tenon Joinery: Simple Techniques for Strong Joints

A short in our table saw switch brought last week’s seminar to a screeching halt! Up to that point, everything was going great. But, I think Terry did a good job of explaining the remaining steps for milling lumber so it ends up straight, flat, and square. Luckily, we were almost finished with the [...]

pimg alt=”Krackles” src=”http://lumberjocks.com/assets/pictures/projects/39765-196×130.jpg” //ppThis was and still is one of my favorite projects, the 2X4 Guy would be proud, as I constructed the horse from 2X lumber. It is especially pleasing when you take a square piece and mold it on an inflatable drum sander, watching it take its final shape. The finish was an experience as well, I used a coat of hide glue over the base coat, and then when the latex coat is applied it crackles up. My little ones love it!/p

pI’m having trouble figuring out how to link in photo bucket (working on it for over an hour before I gave up) but when I do I will post the assembly process./p

Bats in the Belfry….

pimg alt=”Bats in the Belfry….” src=”http://lumberjocks.com/assets/pictures/projects/39768-196×130.jpg” //ppOr in this case, in the wood shop! I don#8217;t know if it#8217;s fair or not, I had made this mobile a few years back for Halloween. Did hang them on the porch one year and they looked really cool, fluttering around in the breeze! There was a light near them which cast shadows to make it appear like there was a whole flock(?) of them. Unfortunately, the late October wind was a little to brisk for them, and #8220;batted#8221; them around until they were knocked down. Incredibly, they survived the fall, one ending up two stories down on the ground! So I restrung and hung them in the shop, to remind me of some of my #8220;battier#8221; ideas#8230;/p
